Ocean Protocol is a blockchain-based ecosystem that facilitates the easy release and monetization of data for both individuals and corporations through the use of datatokens built on the ERC-20 standard. Consumers now have access to datasets that were previously inaccessible or difficult to obtain, while publishers may monetise their data while maintaining privacy and control.

Each data service on Ocean Protocol is represented by a datatoken, which encapsulates a dataset or compute-to-data service and, in doing so, enables third-party processing of the data without the data leaving the publisher’s trusted environment.

As the primary medium of commerce on the Ocean Market, OCEAN is also used for voting in community elections and staking data.
